There are plenty of reasons to modify the bike, but the thirsty engine is just one of them. Bigger tank, anyone? That's all part of the fun of having a bike like this, creating it as your own.

It’s ridiculous fuel consumption. The bike is lovely, but I am always paranoid about running out of gas. It’s a huge disadvantage for longer rides.

It's a gas guzzler, no doubt. But who cares? You don't buy a 990 SMR to be fuel efficient. Smiles per gallon, not miles per gallon.
