Does the BYD Dolphin's styling help or hurt its appeal?

by Ashutoshover 1 year ago0 views8 comments
In the EV community, the BYD Dolphin’s exterior design has been a subject of much discussion. While the company says the styling is inspired by the marine mammal, its unique design has polarized opinions. For some, it's its distinctive look in a sea of similar looking vehicles, for others it's quirky or even unappealing. It's also been debated as to whether and how this design will affect the car's aerodynamics, practicality and general market appeal. Moreover it also has implications for brand identity and whether the BYD design language will be accepted by consumers in different markets. Much of the discussion involved comparing the Dolphin’s styling to both traditional cars and other EVs, with regards to how it will age and thus affect resale value.

I don't like the design, but I like that BYD is doing its own thing, rather than simply copying others.

I like a car that's not being too serious. The Dolphin is fun to look at, and isn't that what driving should be?

It’s polarizing design that may not do much for resale value. If you love it, who cares what others think?

I give BYD credit for trying something different. There are too many EVs that look like spaceships or bland eggs on wheels.

The rear looks unfinished, but the front end is cute. They've clearly run out of design budget half way through.

I thought it was weird at first, but I’ve grown to like it. It’s unique, but not overly flashy.

It’s a bit too out there for me. I’d rather something more conventional so it doesn’t look dated in a few years.

The Dolphin's quirky look is one that I love. It’s different from all the boring, samey cars in the sea. It’s also a great conversation starter!
