But why does the KTM 250 Adventure lack low-end torque?

by geeta kumariover 1 year ago0 views7 comments
The KTM 250 Adventure’s low-end torque has been much talked about by riders and enthusiasts. A lot of people say the bike feels underpowered at low RPMs, which isn’t great in city driving or trying to get going from a stop. It is especially pronounced in comparison to other bikes in the same class or even the sibling, the Duke 250. Many riders have resorted to modifying the bikes to improve low-end performance, such as changing the sprocket ratio. But for others, the bike's power delivery is perfect for what it is intended to be, as a versatile adventure tourer. Now let’s take a look at different viewpoints of this aspect of the KTM 250 Adventure and how it alters the riding experience.

I honestly don't think it is overblown. It's a torque whore for sure, but it's got enough grunt for most stuff. Plus, it’s great for long rides because of its smooth power delivery and no fatigue.

I found that after 5000 RPM, the bike really comes alive. Below that, it's just a little sluggish, but the sweet spot has got plenty of pep. All I have to do is keep it in the right rev range.

It's not great for low-end torque, but you trade that smooth power delivery for higher RPMs. For beginners, it’s actually better because it’s less likely to surprise you with sudden power surges.

It's all about expectations. If you come from a torquey single cylinder, then, yes, it feels weak. However, if you ride it as a rev-happy mini ADV, it’s a blast. You just gotta adjust your riding style.

For someone who rides in heavy city traffic, not having low-end grunt is very frustrating. It’s never one gear; I’m always changing gears just to keep up with the flow. I might look into changing the sprocket to help with this.

People complain about this, and I don’t get why. It is not a cruiser; it is an adventure bike. It's perfect to deliver power for off-road where you want power to be controlled, not a torque monster that'll spin the rear wheel.

The low-end torque issue is very real, but it's not a deal breaker. It's just a case of keeping the revs up and using the gearbox more. It's actually pretty fun to ride when you get used to it.
