Are the electronics on the KTM 390 Adventure good or bad for off-road riding?
Equipped with electronic aids such as ride-by-wire throttle, traction control, and cornering ABS, the KTM 390 Adventure can do the same. Although praised in general for their impact on road safety and on road performance, these features are frequently questioned in the area of off-road use. The added safety net is appreciated by some riders, especially for riders new to off-road riding, but those in favor of doing without the electronics claim that they can create interference for the precise control required in technical off-road situations. The conversation often expands to the complexity that such systems bring to the bike and how, as a result, trailside repairs may become more difficult. Another element that pops up in these debates is the contrast between the 390 Adventure's high-tech approach and the more traditional and simple designs of some of its competitors (read some of the smaller ADV segment) in terms of design.

If there were a dedicated 'off-road' mode that optimized all electronics for trail use, I would be a happy camper. There is no hassle when

They might be a hindrance to the experienced off-road rider but a huge help for adventure tourists who might find themselves on an off-road section when not expecting it.

The electronics make the bike useful for more. On the road, you'll find it confidence inspiring and can even tune the settings for the dirt.

I feel KTM had a good balance. They're useful, but not too useful. And you can get the rear wheel spinning when you need to.

The throttle is a ride-by-wire, which means it gives amazing fuel efficiency, perfect for long-distance adventure riding. That doesn’t mean it’s only good for off-road either.

That’s all these electronics adding complexity. More problems to go wrong with in the middle of nowhere. For true adventure riding, I prefer a simpler bike.

It’s saved my bacon a few times, transitioning onto loose gravel. It is a great safety net for a long adventure when you’re tired.

I love the road use with the cornering ABS, but disabling it (to use it for serious off-road) would be a pain! It should be easier to switch modes on KTM.

I find myself turning everything off when I head into the trails because the electronics are good for beginners, but I don’t need it. They can be too intrusive.
