Our Verdict

Expert opinion and recommendation

With its compact proportions, it can be classed as an electric SUV as well and the Punch EV does not disappoint on several fronts. The cabin space is quite large in relation to the size of the vehicle and there is a reasonable 366-litre boot. Power is quite good, within the range for that kind of a vehicle, particularly in Sport mode. There is however a lack of a spare wheel which could be a deterrent for few customers especially in India.

Recent news and announcements

I've been driving the Tata Punch EV Long Range extensively over highways like Mumbai-Nashik, clocking 700 kilometers, and it continues to impress as India's most affordable electric SUV with real-world range hitting 265-270 km on a full 35 kWh charge, making it reliable for intercity runs despite the official 421 km claim. The suspension shines on potholed roads and ghat sections, keeping body roll minimal while delivering planted stability, and the instant torque from its 122 PS motor makes overtaking effortless and fun, turning traffic dodges into engaging drives. Charging takes about 1.5 hours on DC fast chargers or 5 hours on 7.2 kW AC, which suits my routine perfectly. Inside, four passengers sit comfortably with no floor hump, light interiors and sunroof enhance the vibe, and the 366-litre boot swallows weekend luggage easily, though rear AC vents are missed. Top trims pack ventilated seats, 360-camera, and connected tech, with six airbags standard. Excitingly, the 2026 facelift launches February 20, promising minor interior tweaks, possible ADAS via bumper radar, and retained powertrain options including the peppy 35 kWh pack, keeping it competitive against rivals like eC3. Overall, it proves small EVs can handle Indian roads brilliantly without compromise.

I've been driving the Tata Punch EV Long Range extensively across Mumbai's chaotic streets and the demanding Mumbai-Nashik highway, clocking over 700 kilometers in real-world conditions, and it continues to impress as India's most affordable electric SUV. The 35 kWh battery delivers a practical range of 265-270 km mixing city and highway runs, far more reliable than the claimed 421 km, with DC fast charging taking just 1.5 hours to full or 56 minutes for 10-80% at 50 kW stations. Its suspension shines on potholes and Kasara Ghat's twists, keeping body roll minimal while the instant 122 PS and 190 Nm torque make overtaking trucks effortless and addictive. Comfort for four is excellent with a flat floor, 366-litre boot swallowing weekend luggage, and the 10.25-inch screens plus sunroof making long trips enjoyable, though rear AC vents are missed. Ownership over months reveals low running costs, peppy city agility, and stability at speeds, but range anxiety persists on pure highways. Excitingly, a refreshed 2026 facelift launches February 20 with potential ADAS, tweaked interiors, and minor powertrain upgrades to boost range slightly, keeping it ahead in the sub-4m EV pack starting at around Rs 10 lakh.

I've been driving the Tata Punch EV Long Range extensively across Mumbai's chaotic streets and the demanding Mumbai-Nashik highway, clocking over 700 kilometers in real-world conditions, and it continues to impress as India's most affordable electric SUV. The 35 kWh battery delivers a practical range of 265-270 km mixing city and highway runs, far more reliable than the claimed 421 km, with DC fast chargers taking about 1.5 hours for a full top-up—perfect for Indian road trips where outlets are popping up fast. Its suspension shines, soaking up potholes and keeping body roll minimal even on twisty Kasara Ghat bends, while the instant 122 PS electric torque makes overtaking trucks effortless and addictive, turning mundane drives into fun. Cabin comfort is spot-on for four adults with no floor hump, a light interior, sunroof for airy vibes, and a boot swallowing three soft bags plus two hard cases for weekend getaways. Top trims pack ventilated seats, 360-camera, and connected tech, though rear AC vents are missed. With the refreshed 2026 facelift debuting February 20, expect subtle dashboard tweaks, possible ADAS hints from the ICE radar, and carried-over powertrains—I'm eager to test if it squeezes extra range. At under 15 lakh on-road, it punches way above its weight for urban EV buyers.
February 8, 2026
I've spent considerable time with the Tata Punch EV over thousands of kilometers in Indian conditions, from Mumbai's chaotic streets to Nashik highways, and it's proven a compact powerhouse despite some quirks. The current long-range 35kWh variant delivers a real-world range of 265-270km on mixed drives, with peppy 122PS performance that makes overtaking effortless and suspension that soaks up potholes remarkably well for its size—body roll is minimal even on ghat sections. City commutes shine with easy parking, a light spacious cabin seating four comfortably, 366-litre boot for weekend luggage, and features like the 10.25-inch screens, sunroof, and ventilated seats keeping things premium. However, electronic gremlins persist: infotainment freezes, Android Auto drops, excessive alerts for everything from seatbelts to drive modes, and no spare tyre left me stranded once by a nail. Power delivery feels abrupt in transitions, and charging takes 1.5 hours at DC fast chargers. Excitingly, the facelifted 2026 model debuts February 20 with refreshed interiors, possible ADAS via bumper radar, and carried-over battery options claiming up to 421km—potentially tweaked for better efficiency—making it even more compelling at under ₹15 lakh.
February 8, 2026
Tata has unveiled a mid-range battery for the Punch EV, which is considered to be an in-between option between the standard model and long-range model to strike a decent range economically.

Tata Punch.EV Detailed Info

Tata's Electric Journey

Tata started with the Tigor EV, a small sedan that won over many who care about the planet. Then came the Nexon EV, a big hit in electric SUVs. These cars helped Tata grow its electric car family.

Punch EV: A New Chapter

The Tata Punch EV is a big leap for Tata in electric cars. It's a small electric SUV made for city living. Tata wants to make electric cars more available to everyone.

Target Audience

Tata made the Punch EV for:

  • Young professionals who deal with city traffic
  • Families needing a big but small electric car
  • People who want to cut down on carbon emissions

The Punch EV mixes the best of SUVs with electric car tech. It's set to change city driving and boost Tata's electric car market share.

The Tata Punch EV has a design that grabs attention. It combines rugged charm with sleek modernism. Its aerodynamics help it move through the air smoothly.

LED lighting is a key feature of the Punch EV's front. It not only improves visibility but also adds elegance. These lights are energy-efficient, fitting the car's eco-friendly vibe.

Tata offers the Punch EV in many colors. You can choose from bold reds to subtle silvers. Each color highlights the car's compact yet strong look, making it pop in the city or on the highway.

Battery Capacity and Range

Our advanced lithium-ion battery gives you up to 300 kilometers on one charge. You can plan your daily drives and weekend trips without fear of running out of power.

Tata's Charging Network

We're growing our charging network across India. Tata Power has set up over 1,000 public charging points in 180 cities. We plan to add more. This makes traveling with the Punch EV worry-free across the country.

Safety Features and Ratings

The Tata Punch EV is a leader in crash safety. It comes with advanced features to keep you and your family safe. Its strong structure is the base of its safety.

Its airbags are a key part of the safety package. They deploy quickly in a crash to protect you. The ABS system stops the wheels from locking up during hard braking, helping you stay in control.

ESP (Electronic Stability Program) is another important feature. It keeps the car stable when cornering or making sudden turns. This helps prevent skidding and losing control, especially on wet roads.

  • Dual front airbags
  • ABS with EBD
  • ESP with corner stability control
  • ISOFIX child seat anchors
  • Rear parking sensors with camera

The Tata Punch EV's NCAP rating is still pending. But, we're confident it will do well. Its predecessor, the ICE Punch, got a 5-star NCAP rating. We've made the EV version even safer.
