In US, automatic models are the standard.. Here, the automatic is considered 'sophisticated' and packaged as part of the highest end model, resulting in much higher price than the manual model creating the illusion that automatics are quite expensive.. In US, automatic cars, are available in the lower end and the mileage difference between automatic and manual is quite less, as they engine and transmissions are optimized for mileage so there is not much difference... Not sure, why there is no such clarity here...
