General information and overview

The Mahindra TUV300 is a 7-seater compact SUV powered by a 1.5-litre mHawk diesel engine producing around 100 bhp and 240 Nm of torque, paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox and rear-wheel drive in most variants. Its design draws inspiration from Indian military vehicles, featuring a boxy, high-ground-clearance silhouette that communicates toughness and capability. The interior is spacious with practical touches like keyless entry, manual AC, a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and multiple storage options. Safety gets high emphasis with features like six airbags, ABS with EBD, ESC, hill hold, and ISOFIX mounts. The TUV300 shines on broken roads and off-road with a suspension designed to absorb rough terrain comfortably, though it has some limitations in steering responsiveness and sharp cornering. While the last row’s seating and legroom are suitable mainly for children or occasional use, the SUV comfortably accommodates five adults. The TUV300’s solid build, safety credentials, and feature set make it a functional choice for Indian buyers seeking a durable vehicle capable of handling city and rural roads alike.

The Mahindra TUV300 is a compact, 7-seater SUV engineered for durability with military-inspired styling cues, a tall stance, and high ground clearance. It is powered by a 1.5-litre mHawk diesel engine producing 100 PS and 240 Nm torque, paired with a 5-speed manual transmission and rear-wheel drive. Its body-on-ladder chassis offers solidity and off-road competence rare in this segment. The cabin features practical appointments such as a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, keyless entry, manual AC, and height-adjustable driver seat. Safety is comprehensive with dual airbags, ABS, EBD, and child seat mounts. Rear visibility is aided by a 360-degree camera system. The vehicle’s design favors function over flair, and the last row seating is cramped and lacks seat belts, making it better suited for occasional use or children. The steering is tuned for easier city driving, though handling remains measured due to the ladder frame architecture. Overall, it appeals to buyers prioritizing ruggedness, space, and value over plush comfort or sharp dynamics.

Our Verdict

Expert opinion and recommendation

The Mahindra TUV300 presents itself as a rugged and reliable compact SUV ideal for Indian conditions, especially for those looking for a tough road presence and practical utility. Its robust body-on-ladder chassis lends it excellent toughness and off-road capability, particularly in the AWD variant, which manages rough terrain and muddy trails with confidence. While it is not as refined or agile as some rivals, the TUV300’s improved suspension and lighter steering make city driving manageable. The cabin is functional and feature-packed, including modern conveniences like a 10-inch touchscreen, wireless charging, and ventilated seats, enhancing comfort for daily commutes and weekend adventures. Safety is another strong point with six airbags, ESC, hill assist, and ISOFIX mounts, underpinning Mahindra’s focus on occupant protection. Although the design remains boxy and polarizing, this aligns well with its rugged character. Overall, the TUV300 balances affordability, performance, and features well for buyers seeking a no-nonsense, hard-working SUV in India. Its strengths lie in durability, safety, and a commanding driving position, although it might not suit those desiring sporty handling or a sleek design.
December 5, 2025
The Mahindra TUV300 is a robust and rugged compact SUV that stands out for its military-inspired design and tough build quality. It delivers a commanding road presence with impressive ground clearance and a sturdy body-on-ladder frame that makes it capable across rough terrains. The 1.5-litre mHawk diesel engine strikes a fine balance between power and torque, making it reliable for city driving as well as occasional off-roading. Inside, the TUV300 offers a no-nonsense yet functional cabin with practical features like a touchscreen infotainment system and good storage options. While the ride quality is firm, it absorbs bumps competently, and the updated NVH levels provide a quieter cabin compared to older models. The rear seating is best suited for children due to limited space and absence of seat belts in the last row. It lacks a petrol engine option and has a somewhat boxy design that might not appeal to all. However, the safety kit with multiple airbags and electronic aids adds confidence for families. Overall, the TUV300 is a value-packed, reliable, and rugged SUV option for buyers looking for a tough city and adventure vehicle within a budget.

The new model will feature a 1.5-litre diesel engine producing 100PS and 240Nm, paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox. November 14, 2024
The upcoming Mahindra TUV300 is set to receive several cosmetic updates, including an updated front grille with six vertical slats, a redesigned front bumper, and more angular fog lamp housing. The SUV will also feature new headlights and a new LED DRL design. I believe these changes will give the TUV300 a more premium and rugged look.
November 11, 2024
Mahindra is planning to introduce a fully-electric version of the KUV100, but there are no immediate plans for an electric TUV300. However, the company is continuously updating its product range to meet evolving market demands. I think its wise for Mahindra to focus on electric options for smaller vehicles first.
November 6, 2024
The Mahindra TUV300 has a seating capacity of up to seven people and is known for its robust build and features like a 360-degree camera and parking sensors. The manual diesel variant offers a mileage of 18.49 kmpl, making it a practical choice for family use.

Price

Pricing details and changes

In India, the Mahindra TUV300 is competitively priced starting around Rs 9 lakh ex-showroom and can go up to approximately Rs 12.3 lakh for the top-end variant, depending on the city and selected options. On-road prices typically add registration, insurance, and taxes, which can increase the cost by roughly Rs 1.5 lakh to Rs 1.8 lakh or more depending on the state of registration and dealer charges, placing fully loaded models around Rs 11-14 lakh in many metros. This pricing positions the TUV300 as an accessible option within the compact SUV segment, appealing to budget-conscious buyers who also desire ruggedness and versatility. The inclusion of modern features and safety equipment at this price level reinforces its value proposition compared to competitors that may charge more for similar specs. However, buyers should factor in the lack of a petrol variant, which may influence running costs in some markets. Overall, the TUV300 offers good value for those prioritizing build quality and toughness without stretching the budget excessively.
December 5, 2025
In India, the Mahindra TUV300 is priced approximately between Rs 9 lakh to Rs 12.5 lakh ex-showroom depending on the variant and city. On-road prices vary by state but expect to pay around Rs 10.5 lakh to Rs 14 lakh including taxes, insurance, and registration charges for higher trims with features like a 7-inch touchscreen, 360-degree camera, and safety equipment. From a value perspective, the TUV300’s pricing is competitive for a robust RWD compact SUV offering seating for seven and a practical diesel engine. It undercuts more urban-focused rivals that offer smaller cabins or less torque. However, customers prioritizing refined city driving or premium interiors might find the cost-to-comfort ratio less appealing. The absence of a petrol variant and focus on diesel may narrow its appeal in metro areas with fuel preferences shifting. Nonetheless, it occupies a niche for budget-conscious buyers seeking off-road readiness and space in a compact SUV footprint.

Mileage

Fuel efficiency information

The Mahindra TUV300’s diesel engine delivers mileage in the range of about 12-15 km/l under typical Indian driving conditions. This fuel efficiency is reasonable for its body-on-frame build and the power it offers, balancing performance with economy. Considering the TUV300’s sturdy construction and off-road capabilities, this mileage helps keep running costs manageable for daily use and longer trips. For buyers whose primary concern is mileage, the TUV300 performs adequately, though more fuel-efficient options exist in the segment if mileage is the top priority.
December 5, 2025
The Mahindra TUV300 diesel delivers a real-world mileage of about 12 to 15 km/l depending on city or highway conditions. While not class-leading, this efficiency is respectable considering the heavy body-on-frame construction and torque-focused tuning. Buyers should balance mileage expectations against the vehicle’s rugged capabilities and seating flexibility since the running costs remain moderate for a diesel SUV of this size.

Mahindra has launched the much awaited TUV300 in India starting at Rs. 6.90 lakhs. Mahindra has launched the much awaited TUV300 in India starting at Rs. 6.98 lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi). The introduction of compact designed utility vehicles has gone far with every manufacturer trying its best to win the segment and boost up the sales of these more practical and sensible vehicles than present day hatchbacks.

Mahindra has a good place when it comes to utility vehicles and the Indian SUV manufacturer is focusing deeply this time on the small engine 7-seater machine, capable of providing the best of both worlds, tough build and everyday utility. TUV 300 is a car best suited for the above description and Mahindra finally gets a real competition for the Hyundai Creta, Renault Duster and others in the segment.

Exterior

The car gets more focus on its definition than its exterior styling. It gets a short bonnet, with almost very little designing and limited space under the hood. The m-Hawk 80 logo rests on its square shaped fender, which is nothing longer than the diameter of the wheel. The sub 4-meter limit made the design go this way for better interior space in the first 2 sitting rows. The car gets boxy elements all over its design with most of the panels being flat.

This makes the TUV look compact, tough and useful inside the city traffic conditions as well as the off road exploration. The battle tank design, as quoted by Mahindra can be clearly seen in its design and the simplicity of this beautiful design has been excellently presented by the manufacturer. From the design of the alloy wheels to the front Jeep like bumper design, everything has been kept matching to the tough image of the compact SUV.

Interior

The car gets a better interior than the entry level Mahindra utility vehicles. The dashboard looks clean and the instrument console scores all the points. The basic theme of black and beige is carried all over the vehicle with excess of bottle spaces and other places for keeping our belongings. The feeling of being premium can be felt as the hexagonal silver boundary to the center console and air vents looks adorable. The car gets square air vents and dial type controls for the air conditioner. The reasonable sized MID is placed centrally to the music player buttons and the whole arrangement looks good on the car.

Instrument Console

The TUV300 gets sporty 2-pod instruments cluster with chrome linings around both of them. It gets a small display in the center of both the instrument dials, making it nothing less than all the cars in its class. The left pod gets the tachometer whereas the right is for the speedometer. All the LED indicators have been placed in the center upward space, with the odometer being digitally shown inside the screen.

Engine & Gearbox

The engine on the TUV 300 is an m-Hawk 80 motor with twin stage turbocharger. It produces 80 BHP @ 3750 rpm and 230 NM @ 1500-2250 rpm. The excellent performance engine comes with an ability to eliminate turbo lag by presenting 187 NM of torque at just 1100 rpm, which is pretty close to idle. The power is transferred to the road through rear wheel drive and the TUV300 gets an option between 5 speed manual as well as AMT gearbox. The AMT unit is the first in its class, providing easy riding while in the city traffic and making the TUV300 a real useful machine for this year.

Comfort

Like most of the Mahindra offerings, the car gets an excellent riding dynamics and a comfortable ride experience. The last two seats being jump seats are tight as the vehicle is less than 4 meter and Mahindra claims that those are for children only. The comfort gets further enhanced by large legroom values, which for the first row is 1034 mm and for the second is 916 mm. Being boxy and having a flat roof has also benefited the SUV by providing 1015 mm and 1014 mm of headroom for the first 2 rows.

TUV300 gets a power steering from its base model, making every model an equally fun drive. It gets an AC with heater for better temperature control inside the vehicle and gets electrically adjustable ORVM’s for further ease of mind. The steering mounted controls keep the driver easy on his/her needs. The tilt able steering and driver seat height adjustment further brings perfect driving position. The feature list goes along with its all 4 power windows, rear defogger and washer, remote keyless entry, lumbar support for the first row seats and smart storages. It even gets smart storage options for keeping the magazines and other belongings safe.

Safety

The TUV300 becomes a Rockstar with its excellence is every field. The safety has been enhanced with a tough body structure which is made from high strength steel and brings higher torsional rigidity for better impact absorption. The compact SUV also gets 2 front airbags for reducing the impact of front collision and keeping the occupants safe. It gets ABS with EBD for prevention of wheel at hard braking and providing enough traction for a safe rescue from the situation.

Advanced Features

The TUV300 introduces a concept of economy mixed with power, making it the best a person can get at its price. It gets static bending lights for better lighting when taking turns, which is enhanced by addition of an extra bulb near to the corner. It gets the follow me home as well as lead-me to the vehicle headlamps, making it easy to get out or reach inside again in night times. The driver information system with voice messaging provides the alerts like low fuel, seat belt alert and hand brake on warnings vocally as well as visually.

Mileage

The TUV300 is claimed to return a mileage of 18.49 kmpl from its 5-speed manual transmission models whereas the AMT models are returning 17 kmpl. The mileage is further enhanced in the TUV300 using the Micro-Hybrid technology, which turns off the engine when its idle for more than 2 seconds and comes back to life with a press of clutch pedal. This saves a lot of fuel and proves the TUV300 to be a great car in all aspects.

Shades & Variants

Mahindra TUV300 comes in a total of 7 variants namely T4, T4+, T6, T6+, T6 AMT, T8 and T8 AMT. The shades available for the new comer are Red, White, Silver, Blue, Black and Orange.

Ex-showroom Price

Being a compact vehicle, the TUV300 falls under the lower tax segment. The TUV300 starts with a price tag of INR 6,98,000 and goes up to INR 9,20,000 (ex-showroom Delhi).
