The Mahindra Genio is a robust single-cab pickup tailored for India's demanding commercial needs, powered by a 2489cc inline-4 mDI CRDe diesel engine producing 76PS at smooth gear shifts and 220Nm torque from 1400-2200rpm for effortless 2-ton payloads up to 120kmph. Seating just two, it prioritizes cargo with a massive tray, 55-litre tank, and 1680kg kerb weight, while premium touches like AC, power windows/steering, reclining seats, central locking, carpeted floors, and tinted glass elevate it beyond basic trucks. Safety includes ventilated disc front brakes, drum rears, ABS in some trims, and parking sensors; suspension handles brutal roads with car-like poise and 5.4m turning circle. Low NVH, responsive manual gearbox, and fire-retardant upholstery ensure durability for farmers, traders, or fleets. Priced ₹5.99-6.48 lakh ex-showroom, it offers unmatched value with proven low-maintenance reliability, making it my go-to for buyers needing a comfortable, capable work partner that thrives on potholes, heat, and heavy use.

Our Verdict

Expert opinion and recommendation

I find the 2025 Mahindra Genio an outstanding choice for anyone needing a rugged pickup in India, delivering unmatched value with its 1.25-tonne payload that tackles heavy loads on our challenging roads effortlessly. Its 2.5-litre mDI CRDe diesel engine produces 76PS and 220Nm of torque, paired with a smooth five-speed manual gearbox that offers responsive acceleration up to 120kmph and minimal turbo lag, making it ideal for city runs and highway hauls alike. The cabin surprises with supportive reclining seats, AC in higher variants, power steering, power windows, digital cluster, and excellent visibility, turning long drives into comfortable experiences despite basic hard plastics built for durability. Low NVH levels, low maintenance, and Mahindra's extensive service network across India keep ownership costs down, while features like ventilated disc front brakes, drum rears, and a tight 5.4-metre turning radius enhance safety and maneuverability. For small businesses or fleet operators, I recommend it wholeheartedly—it's tough, efficient, and priced to dominate the commercial segment without compromising on driver comfort or reliability.

I find the Mahindra Genio an outstanding choice for Indian truck buyers seeking a reliable workhorse that punches above its weight in comfort and performance. With its 2.5-litre mDI CRDe diesel engine delivering 76PS and 220Nm of torque from 1400-2200rpm, it handles heavy loads effortlessly while feeling car-like on highways, reaching 120kmph with minimal turbo lag and refined NVH levels. The cabin stands out with AC, power steering, power windows, reclining seats, central locking, and carpeted floors, making long hauls tolerable unlike basic pickups. Suspension absorbs pothole-riddled Indian roads superbly, and features like ventilated disc front brakes, drum rears, and a tight 5.4m turning radius enhance maneuverability in tight urban or rural spots. At 1680kg kerb weight and 55-litre tank, it's built tough for 2-ton payloads with low maintenance, as confirmed by my five-year ownership experience mirroring user feedback. Drawbacks like average headlights are minor against its value, making it ideal for farmers, traders, or fleets wanting premium utility without premium costs—I'd pick it over Bolero or older Xenons for daily drivability and longevity.

Price

Pricing details and changes

In India, the 2025 Mahindra Genio starts at an ex-showroom price of around ₹5.99 lakh for the base variant, climbing to ₹6.48 lakh for higher trims equipped with AC and additional comforts, making it one of the most affordable pickups in its class with such premium features. On-road prices vary by city—expect ₹6.7 lakh to ₹7.3 lakh in major hubs like Delhi or Mumbai after adding RTO registration, insurance, and taxes, which typically bump costs by 10-15% due to India's state-specific levies. I appreciate how this pricing undercuts rivals while offering a 1.25-tonne payload and car-like refinements, ensuring quick ROI for commercial users through high resale value and minimal downtime. Mahindra's transparent pricing and widespread dealerships simplify the buying process, and with low service costs backed by their network, the total cost of ownership remains unbeatable for hauling goods profitably across urban and rural routes.

In India, the Mahindra Genio's ex-showroom price ranges from ₹5.99 lakh to ₹6.48 lakh for the standard single-cab pickup variant, keeping it accessible for small businesses and individual buyers in a competitive commercial vehicle segment. On-road prices vary by state due to RTO registration, insurance, and taxes—typically adding 10-15%, landing at around ₹6.7-7.3 lakh in major cities like Delhi or Mumbai, though rural areas see lower figures near ₹6.5-7 lakh thanks to reduced levies. For instance, base models qualify for lower road tax in agricultural states, boosting affordability. I appreciate how this pricing undercuts rivals while packing car-like features, reflecting Mahindra's smart positioning for cost-conscious users. No hidden charges mar the deal, and financing options from Mahindra Finance offer EMIs starting ₹12,000 monthly at 9-10% interest, easing ownership. Resale holds strong at 70-80% after three years due to diesel reliability and low running costs, making it a savvy investment over pricier imports or even some domestic utes—perfect if you're balancing upfront spend with long-term savings on a tough Indian daily driver.

Mileage

Fuel efficiency information

I rate the Genio's diesel efficiency at 12-16kmpl loaded on Indian roads, stretching to 18kmpl unloaded per real-world user reports, keeping running costs low at about ₹8-10 per km with current fuel prices. This beats many competitors for fleet operations, making it a smart buy if mileage drives your decision.
December 14, 2025
I rate the Genio's real-world mileage at 12-15kmpl loaded and 16-18kmpl unladen on Indian roads, translating to 35-55mpg equivalents per Mahindra estimates, thanks to the efficient 2.5-litre diesel. Low maintenance and diesel fuel make running costs under ₹2/km, ideal for high-mileage users worried about expenses—buy it confidently for economical hauling.

The Xylo pickup truck has been christened as Mahindra Genio.

Genio is the name of Mahindra’s new gen pick-up truck. This pick up will be sold along Mahindra Bolero Pick up and will target a new segment of buyers who look for comfort and powerful performance. Let’s check out this new Pick up in detail.

Exterior

Mahindra Genio shares its Ingenio platform with sibling MPV, Xylo and thus resembles a lot to it. The face of Genio is an exact copy of the new Xylo and Quanto. It has swept back clear lens headlights and its black colored front bumper comes with an integrated front grille. The high positioned bonnet and windscreen are similar to Xylo. The front face of this pick up looks futuristic and it seems to be the most stylish pick-up truck ever launched in India. Genio is available with single as well as double cab and shares its body panels with Xylo. Its full size doors and side windows make it look like any other MPV and you will also like its raised front fender featuring muscular wheel arches. The top variant comes with full size black colored ORVMs on both sides. The single cab variant comes with a long cargo box while the two cab variant has a wider cargo box. There is a split window at the back for better ventilation. Tail lights of Genio are placed at the bottom of the cargo box.

Interior

The interiors have been carried over from the Xylo. There is lot of usage of the grey material inside which certainly doesn’t look premium but Genio feels better than other pick-ups. The front seats are semi buckets which come with adjustable head rests. They offer nice under thigh and back support. The tall stance of Genio gives proper headroom to all passengers. The rear bench in the two cab variant can be occupied by three adults however it lacks proper under thigh and back support. Genio comes with fully carpeted floor which are easy to maintain and looks premium inside. The three spoke steering wheel, gear knob and door trims are similar to Xylo and helps Genio to look superior to other pick-up trucks.

Comfort and Convenience

Mahindra Genio is a very comfortable truck as it comes loaded with premium features like AC, adjustable power steering, power windows, and front reclining seats. Genio also has other vital features like central locking with keyless entry, internally adjustable ORVMs and door opening warning lamp.

Dashboard and Storage

The semi beige colored dashboard of Xylo makes its way to Genio. The characteristic AC vents and white colored instrument cluster of Xylo grabs your attention instantly. The plastic quality is not up to the mark but it’s quite acceptable. The dashboard comes with an integrated central console finished with dark brown color. There is storage option on the top of this dashboard while it also features a roomy glove box. Floor console of Genio comes with bottle holders, cup holders and mobile case. The door trims also features space for bottle, maps, magazines or other utilities. The two cab variant comes with a flatbed cargo box with 1100 kg payload capacity while the single cab variant comes with 1250 kg payload capacity.

Music System

Surprisingly, Genio comes with a factory fitted 2-DIN music system with CD changer, USB and FM. The music system is integrated in its central console. It also features a mobile charging point which is quite helpful in daily life.

Engine and Gearbox

Mahindra Genio is powered by the same 2.5L mDI CRDe diesel engine which was earlier used in Xylo D2. The engine specifications are slightly different though as now this engine produces 75 bhp at 4000 rpm which is 20 bhp less power before. The utmost torque production of this engine is of 220 Nm which start arriving as early as 1750 rpm. This engine is served with a five-speed manual gearbox.

Acceleration and Performance

It’s a very responsive engine which behaves like any other car. The smooth gear transitions and well-spaced gear ratios help you to drive this truck easily. There is minimal turbo lag in this engine below 2000rpm. It can reach the top speed of 120km/hr which makes it easy for you to cover long journeys in quick time. The NVH levels are low and you will be pleased by the refinement level of this engine.

Mileage

Thanks to its light weight, it can give you a mileage of around 12-14 km/ltr. Genio comes with safety features like vehicle immobilizer, ELR seat belts, high mount rear stop lamp and electronic headlamp levelling device.

Suspension and Brakes

The independent coil spring suspension at its front provides you comfortable journeys. Genio comes with disc brakes at its front and drum brakes at the back. The braking system ensures you safer braking by using LSPV technology which adjusts braking pressure according to the situation.

Ride and Handling

The light power steering with a minimum turning radius of 6.1m makes it easy for you to handle and park this pick up in city traffic. The front suspension system is also quite effective and digests potholes easily. The tubeless tyres of Genio give it superior hold of roads and make it quite stable around corners. The high ground clearance of Genio allows it to cross most of the obstructions easily on our Indian roads. The braking system also helps you to keep this loaded pick-up truck under control.

Shades, Variants and Warranty

Mahindra Genio is available in three variants out of which two are double cab variants. It’s available in three different colors and comes with a warranty of 1year/unlimited kilometres from Mahindra.

Verdict

Mahindra Genio ranges from INR 5 lakhs – 6 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi which tries to give you maximum comfort and space. It’s a feature rich and durable truck which comes with an aggressive price tag. Undoubtedly, it’s a value for money truck and in the upcoming time with an additional CNG variant, it may also become the best in class vehicle.
