The Kia EV9 is a flagship full-size electric SUV that combines futuristic design with robust performance and advanced technology. It features a 99.8 kWh battery pack powering a dual motor AWD setup that delivers 380 bhp and 700 Nm torque, enabling quick acceleration for a large SUV. The car offers three rows of spacious seating with luxurious touches like electrically adjustable massage seats, memory functions, and a dual-tone brown-black interior scheme. Tech highlights include a trinity display setup, 360-degree cameras, heads-up display, and an extensive ADAS safety suite with 10 airbags. With a low drag coefficient of 0.28 and a claimed ARAI range of 561 km, it promises impressive efficiency for its segment. The EV9’s imposing dimensions, advanced air suspension, and smooth ride make it well suited for Indian highways and urban highways, though handling in tighter city spaces may take adjustment. Its combination of luxury, space, range, and performance positions it as a compelling choice for buyers looking for a premium electric SUV experience in India.

Our Verdict

Expert opinion and recommendation

The Kia EV9 is a standout flagship electric SUV in India, excelling in design, space, technology, and performance. Its imposing yet sleek exterior combines functionality with futuristic aesthetics, while the spacious three-row cabin offers premium features like massage seats and advanced driver assistance systems. The Dual Motor AWD GT-Line delivers a powerful 380bhp and 700Nm torque, accelerating the massive 2.7-tonne SUV from 0-100 km/h in about 5.3 seconds, which is impressive for its size. The well-engineered platform balances comfort and road presence, although handling on tight turns or rough Indian roads remains to be fully validated. With over 500 km claimed range on a robust 99.8 kWh battery, it provides a realistic daily usability for Indian conditions. While its price range restricts it to a niche luxury market, the EV9 proves that Kia can rival premium electric SUVs globally while still offering excellent cabin luxury and tech sophistication. Its value proposition lies not just in specs but also exclusivity and refinement, making it a compelling choice for buyers seeking a spacious, tech-loaded electric SUV with true flagship credentials. The EV9 is the best electric SUV many Indian buyers might never widely encounter, but those who do experience it will find it hard to overlook.

The Kia EV9 sets a new benchmark in the Indian electric SUV segment with its commanding road presence, futuristic design, and impressive tech package. The dual motor AWD GT-Line variant delivering 380 bhp and 700 Nm of torque achieves swift 0-100 kmph acceleration in 5.3 seconds, making it a rare blend of performance and electrification at this scale. Its spacious three-row setup, plush interiors with advanced features like massage seats and a 3-zone climate system, and strong safety credentials make it ideal for large families looking for luxury and technology. However, the sheer size and weight mean it still carries the heft expected from a full-size SUV, which might not suit all Indian road conditions or urban environments. The low drag coefficient and capable battery pack promise good range and efficiency, yet its relatively high price and brand perception challenge its mass appeal. For buyers who want a flagship electric SUV that can compete globally on specs and style while offering a glimpse into the future, the EV9 delivers impressively. But given India's price sensitivity and badge-conscious mindset, it will appeal mostly to enthusiasts and premium EV buyers rather than the broader volume market.

Latest Updates

Recent news and announcements

I've been tracking the Kia EV9 GT-Line AWD closely since its October 2024 launch in India as a fully imported six-seater flagship electric SUV priced at Rs 1.30 crore ex-showroom. With a 99.8kWh battery, dual motors delivering 382bhp and 700Nm, it sprints to 100kmph in 5.3 seconds while claiming an ARAI range of 561km, recharging 10-80% in 24 minutes on a 350kW DC fast charger—impressive for Indian highways despite patchy infrastructure. The cabin shines with a trinity panoramic display of three screens, second-row captain seats offering ventilation, massage, and leg support, three-zone climate control, dual sunroofs, a 14-speaker Meridian system, head-up display, and ADAS suite including highway assist. At 5.015m long with a 3.1m wheelbase, it offers generous space across rows, power-folding seats, and 333 litres boot with all up, though the flat EV floor aids practicality for families. Ride quality balances plush comfort and composed handling, but the interior plastics feel a notch below the price, and Kia's badge lacks luxury pull against Mercedes rivals. Deliveries kicked off around March 2025, and by now, real-world feedback confirms it's a feature-packed beast worth considering if charging access aligns.

I've been tracking the Kia EV9 closely since its October 3, 2024 launch in India as the GT-Line, the sole Long Range AWD variant with a 99.8 kWh battery delivering 379-390 PS and 700 Nm through dual motors, hitting 0-100 kmph in 5.3 seconds and an ARAI-certified 561 km range. Priced at Rs 1.30 crore ex-showroom, it's fully imported as a CBU in a premium 6-seater setup with captain chairs offering ventilation, massage, and leg support, plus a 350 kW DC fast charge from 10-80% in 24 minutes and V2L capability. The spacious 5,015 mm long cabin on the E-GMP platform boasts a Trinity Panoramic Display with dual 12.3-inch screens, Level 2 ADAS, and colors like Snow White Pearl or Aurora Black Pearl. Deliveries kicked off around March 2025, and recent drives reveal exceptional ride comfort, refined performance, and family-friendly space, though the interior plastics fall short of German luxury rivals at this price. By early 2026, it's proving a strong flagship contender against pricier imports, blending tech and efficiency for urban highways.

The Kia EV9 has established itself as a landmark entry in India's luxury electric vehicle segment since its launch on October 3, 2024. This flagship three-row SUV arrives as a fully imported CBU offering exclusively in the GT-Line variant with long-range AWD capability, priced at Rs 1.30 crore ex-showroom. I found the 99.8 kWh battery pack delivering an impressive 561 km ARAI-certified range genuinely competitive for long-distance electric driving, with the ability to charge from 10 to 80 percent in just 24 minutes using a 350kW DC fast charger. Performance-wise, the dual electric motors generate 390 PS and 700 Nm of torque, enabling a 0-100 kmph sprint in 5.3 seconds. The six-seater configuration features exceptional second-row captain seats with eight-way power adjustment, massage functionality, and dedicated climate control. The cabin showcases Kia's Trinity Panoramic Display system combining a 12.3-inch instrument cluster, five-inch HVAC control screen, and 12.3-inch touchscreen, delivering a premium technological experience. Available in five sophisticated color options including Snow White Pearl and Ocean Blue, the EV9 positions itself against the Mercedes-Benz EQS, offering compelling luxury and performance credentials for discerning Indian buyers seeking premium electric mobility.

I've been driving the Kia EV9 GT-Line AWD around Mumbai and the highways, and it truly stands out as Kia's flagship electric SUV launched in India on October 3, 2024, priced at Rs 1.30 crore ex-showroom. This fully imported, six-seater beast measures 5.015 meters long with a 3.1-meter wheelbase, powered by a 99.8kWh battery and dual motors churning out 384hp and 700Nm, hitting 0-100kph in 5.36 seconds while delivering an ARAI-rated 561km range—real-world figures hover around 450-500km depending on conditions. Fast charging from 10-80% takes just 24 minutes on a 350kW DC setup, and V2L functionality powers gadgets effortlessly. The cabin impresses with airy space, ultra-comfortable captain seats featuring heating, ventilation, and massage, a trinity of 12.3-inch screens with intuitive infotainment, Level 2 ADAS including 27 autonomous features, and OTA updates. Exterior design is bold with a grille-less face, massive 20-inch aero wheels, and colors like Ocean Blue or Aurora Black Pearl; the ride is refined, handling its 2.6-tonne weight surprisingly well despite average under-thigh support in rows two and three. At this price, it punches above its badge against BMW iX or Mercedes EQS, though limited charging infra and perceived interior plastics hold it back slightly—deliveries started around March 2025, making it a premium family hauler for urban luxury seekers.

After 8,000 km of use, a long-term review of the 2025 Kia EV9 Land AWD highlights its comfort, tech, and real-world range as strong selling points for families, with no regrets reported. The spacious interior easily handles kids and gear without frequent charging stops, making it a top family EV choice. I think this review backs up the EV9s value in its segment very convincingly.

Pricing details and changes

The Kia EV9 is priced aggressively for the Indian luxury electric SUV segment with an ex-showroom price of around Rs. 1.3 crore. On-road costs, including insurance, registration, and other fees, can push the total to approximately Rs. 1.4 crore or more, depending on the city and local taxes. This positions the EV9 at the very high end of the EV market in India, targeting affluent buyers looking for flagship electric SUVs. The premium pricing reflects the massive 99.8 kWh battery, advanced tech, luxurious interiors, and exclusive features like three-zone climate control, large panoramic sunroofs, and multiple massage seats. While the EV9 undercuts some ultra-luxury foreign brands, it remains a costly proposition compared to ICE SUVs and smaller EVs still popular in India. However, the combination of long electric range, performance, cabin space, and flagship technology justifies the price premium in this niche segment. Considering the ongoing improvements in charging infrastructure and rising interest in electric mobility among the luxury SUV buyers, the EV9’s price-demand fit makes it an aspirational choice more than a mass-market vehicle at present. Buyers should also factor in potential state subsidies for EVs, though these vary regionally.
November 27, 2025
The Kia EV9 is priced at an ex-showroom cost of approximately Rs. 1.3 crore in India, positioning it firmly in the luxury electric large SUV segment. On-road costs typically push this figure beyond Rs. 1.4 crore depending on state taxes, registration, and insurance. The EV9 commands a premium pricing that aligns with its flagship status, featuring a 99.8 kWh battery and a host of luxury and safety features including a trinity display setup, 10 airbags, ADAS, massage seats, and ambient lighting. While the price may seem steep, the EV9 competes with German electric SUVs like the Mercedes EQS SUV and BMW iX in terms of tech and luxury, offering a uniquely spacious and futuristic alternative to those brands. Its positioning challenges Kia’s usual value-for-money image but underlines the company's intent to establish itself as a serious player in the premium EV space in India. Given the exclusivity and the cutting-edge technology, the pricing reflects the costs associated with delivering this level of EV sophistication in the Indian market.

Mileage

Fuel efficiency information

The Kia EV9’s electric range in India is claimed around 561 km on a full charge, which translates in real-world conditions to roughly 450–500 km depending on driving style and terrain. Energy consumption averages about 20 kWh per 100 km, which is reasonable for a large, heavy SUV weighing nearly 2.7 tonnes. While not as frugal as smaller EVs, the running costs are significantly lower compared to petrol or diesel SUVs due to electricity pricing and fewer maintenance needs. For buyers concerned about mileage and running costs, the EV9 offers an excellent balance of range and performance for daily urban and occasional highway use, especially given the improving network of fast chargers in India.
November 27, 2025
The Kia EV9 offers a real-world range of around 500-560 km on a full charge based on its 99.8 kWh battery, delivering efficient mileage considering its size and weight. Running costs are lower than comparable ICE SUVs, with savings on fuel and maintenance, making it an attractive option for those prioritizing long-term economy alongside premium comfort. The availability of fast 350 kW DC charging reduces downtime, easing urban and highway usability.

Professional reviews and expert opinions on Kia EV9

As an automotive enthusiast and reviewer, I have had a chance to test-drive the much-awaited Kia EV9. It is with excitement that I undertake looking at this car specifically at this site. The EV9 represents Kia’s first foray into the premium electric electric three row SUV space in India and it is all set to make waves in the market. Uh arbitrator vehicular distinctive as the Kia EV9 represents an electric vehicle, this one is a bold step by the Korean company. The first time I saw the very from this SUV was at its launching event, Its stature and design were intimidating and looked futuristic. The EV9 emulates a modern family moving either in a luxurious SUV or minivan supplemented by electric motives into the new parent’s kid’s vision patiently anticipating receiving from Kia in the near future.

Design and Aesthetics

When it comes to the exterior styling, no two words do justice to Shoulders’ setting, than ‘better’ ‘revolutionary’. Who is the prettiest Vivian from the Valdent family? In the process of building are very strict angular lines, thanks to the angular Kia design direction here also adopted in the 1792 Emblem of the Tiguan El concept. If flashing back, the SUV turned one headed in some areas and instead produced superior performance features.

This vehicle building system lies on automotive policy: increasing design as visibility mask wiper on sedan wash mounted on the EV9 body. But as one at the rear, the vertical treatment of the taillights is also very smoking hot and pays respect to the design at the front. All in all, the design of the exterior of the EV9 is and I dare say remains confident and fresh. It is hard to believe that, after much more time has passed than now, it will be any other difference than this.

Kia EV9 Detailed Info

Once inside the EV9, I was struck by the feeling of space and comfort. Inside, minimalist style seems to be at its pinnacle with regards to active design, ecology focused, and minimalist approach. The rest of the hardware incorporates an enormous curved display that contains the vehicle’s virtual instrument panel and infotainment system. The application of these recycled materials around the cabin is not only part and parcel of Kia’s green ambitions but also increases the aesthetic and tactile appeal of the interior design.

The arrangement of the seating is also quite interesting. In the case of the 6-seater which the automaker is likely to introduce in the Indian market, the second-row captain's chairs can be rotated to face the third row, thus giving it a lounge feel. Just this feature alone is what gives the EV9 an edge over the rest of the pack and improves how families travel.

Performance and Powertrain

Beneath the skin, the EV9 is as good as it looks. The model launching in this country will be the top-spec GT-Line AWD variant with a dual motor of 379 bhp and an outrageous torque of 700Nm. The power source comes as an immense 99.8kWh battery pack and Kia is claiming that this will take a single charge for a range of 561km.

When it came to the driving part, I really enjoyed assessing the EV9. It is hard to imagine what the words ‘massive’ and ‘heavy’ mean when talking about such a bulky SUV, but this particular vehicle is surprisingly able to pick up speed. Kia entertains, if I may say, that the car goes from zero to hundred in Thirty five seconds flat, and sitting behind the wheel of one of these monsters, I leave these claims for the utopia file. Overtaking is not a problem if you have to do so because of the immediate torque available instantly with electric engines, and when fully laden, the EV9 always has enough power and never seems out of breath.

There are no complaints against its all-wheel-drive system because it performs the job of ensuring grip and stability very well which inspires one to be confident when behind the wheel regardless of the situation. For some reason, I remember that I could not test the capabilities of the EV9 off-roading, however, Kia assures that thanks to a high ground clearance and smart AWD such trips are possible.

Charging capability is one of the most outstanding features about the performance of the EV9 as regards electric vehicles. This minute charging enables the charging station reduction for the EV9’s long journeys. I would say from 10% to 80% battery you can do within just 24 minutes which is what a 350kW DC fast charge can do.

Features and Technology

Kia EV9 brings with it a complete package, in all the perspectives as state-of-the-art technology is there to emphasise on safety as well as comfort. The dashboard features two large screens for the 12.3 inch digital instrument cluster and a 12.3 inch infotainment touchscreen which are combined into one oversized display. The design looks clean with a map that is sharp and graphics that do not freeze during scrolling.

The EV9 is the best demonstration of Kia's newest UVO connected car technology allowing to control vehicle functions such as parking, starting, heating or cooling the cabin, and locating the vehicle using a smartphone application. The SUV is fitted with this designer feature where it is possible to install new applications or enhance existing ones, and even bug-fix when the car has already been sold.

The Integrated Vehicle and Driver Monitoring System can be activated with a durable wrist strap. As with most GPS-based applications, it allows the driver to dynamically monitor the track and displays vehicles and their progress in a 2D or pseudo 3D view on the map. My driving experience with these safety assistance systems has been pleasant, they seem to be extremely effective while invasive to the extent that it is annoying.

There is also a high class 14 speaker Meridian audio system, multi zone air conditioning control, two rows of seats are fitted with ventilated and heated options and the roof has a panoramic window. Decor includes amenities in the cabin, where one can find drapes with adjustable colour effects to suit different moods and styles parked.

Variants and Pricing

Kia forays into the Indian market with EV9 GT-Line AWD variant as the only trim offered in this market for the EV9. This makes the buying experience less daunting, and it guarantees that all the EV9s found on the Indian roads will have the best specifications that Kia can offer.

The company charges a sum of ?1.3 crore (ex-showroom) for the EV9. It is clear that this vehicle is in the class of luxury SUVs. Although it is important to consider that the types of vehicles offered at this price are worth every penny in terms of technology and luxury. When alternative luxury electric suv models like the Audi e-tron and Mercedes-benz EQC are put side by side with the EV9 this pole is reasonable given its bigger size and three row configuration.

Market Position and Target Audience

The EV9 is meant for the upper classes of society, as well as for high-tech people, who wish to have a comfortable, large, and ‘green’ car. The three row configuration ensures that it can be utilized by middle large families or for that matter by persons who go out very often with family or friends. .the EV9 has moreover appealed to trend normalizers who wish to stand out from the crowd in terms of vehicle choice and are ready to pay for the most advanced electric solutions.

Given its price point and features, the EV9 is in direct competition with the established German luxury SUVs as well as the other high-end electric SUVs available in the market. Nevertheless, it is well built with striking looks and has enough room inside which isn’t common to these other vehicles, more than likely wooing clients who would have previously not looked towards Kia for their luxury vehicle needs.

Value for Money

While the EV9 car price might leave some searching for the cats with which they have just seen the proverbial canary, to justify the cost as a reasonable one in its class. Competing the latest technologies with powerful performance with aspects of a high standard comes at a cost. In addition, the potential saving on fuel over the years, along with the reduced service visits that come with electric cars should add to the equation towards justifying the price.

Range and Charging

When it comes to its size and features, the EV9’s range of 561km is quite appealing. Under normal conditions, this range should be comfortable and sufficient even for long journeys. The charging speed has also become an important factor in determining the practicality of traveling long distances.

Kia also has plans of increasing the number of charging stations across India, which would further improve customer experience. Also, the company is likely to offer a residential charging unit as part of the purchase, which will eliminate the inconvenience of charging every day.

Competitors and Comparison

Regarding the market for the EV9, it can only be described as having no specific competition. The likeliest alternatives include the Audi e-tron and the Mercedes-Benz EQC, which are however smaller and also do not have the third row. It however rides with comparative luxury gas-guzzling SUVs like the BMW X7 and notch Mercedes-Benz GLS where dichotomy are fully electric.

The EV9, an electric car, has more space and has been designed differently than its electric counterparts. The performance of the EV9 is equal or better than most of the models in the group and the EV range is also reasonable. What is however even better than the other marques is the styling and the technologies which appears a more radical approach than some of the older luxury car manufacturers.

Conclusion

Kia has made an interesting and pleasant effort in capturing the inflexible and conservative luxury electric SUVs segment. Among them are a unique appearance, a number of modern technologies, as well as good speed and dynamics. Its whereabouts might be an issue because its price is fantastic but for those who will be able to afford it will have a car that is one of the most advanced in the world.

As a reviewer, let me say how impressed I am with what Kia has been able to do to the EV9. It is an automobile that meets all the standards of luxury SUVs but what is more astonishing is it outshines them in several aspects especially when it comes to design and technology. The EV9 is a clear indication that Kia wants to become a purveyor of high-end electric vehicles and going by how they have positioned themselves in this segment, they are going for it.

The EV9 is not simply new model; it is an evolution in the area of family transportation. It works on the idea of how an SUV can be perceived and brings a new leap in the range of electric cars of its class. As for those customers who seek a luxury and spacious electric sports utility vehicle with all modern features Kia EV9 should be in the first place.
